SES Astra Connect Satellite Broadband in France

SES Astra Connect is the newest satellite broadband service available in France & uses the latest hardware and antenna technology to provide unrivalled performance. With attractive monthly subscriptions and a Pay-As-You-Go option suitable for second home owners SES Astra Connect is a flexible and affordable choice for many.

First decide which monthly SES package is right for you.

Like Tooway, SES Astra Connect offers a number of different monthly subscriptions to choose from.

Each package has a different ‘monthly data allowance’. The monthly allowance is the total amount of data that you can download from or upload to the internet. For example, every time you go to a web page or receive an email a certain amount of data is downloaded. If you download large files such as a music track or a photo attached to an email then this will use up more data. Streaming videos or music from the internet generally uses the most data of all.

Other considerations when choosing a monthly package are:

The download & upload speed. The SES Broadband S3 package provides download speeds of up to 4 Mbp/s. All other monthly packages offer download speeds up to 20 Mbp/s. See the table below for more details & costs of all the packages.

Buying Your Satellite Equipment

SES does not provide an option to rent the satellite kit - it has to be purchased outright. The purchase costs are, however, lower than Tooway.

Buying the kit means that you have no long term contract - just a 30 day rolling agreement. The service can also be stopped  with 30 days notice and re-started when required, which can be useful if you are away from the property for periods of time (many holiday home & second home owners use this as an alternative to the Pay As You Go option).

The SES satellite kit can be purchased for €325 or £315. The kit includes 30 metres of high grade cable and connectors.

Pay As You Go Broadband.

SES Astra Connect offers a Pay-As-You go solution which is popular with second home owners. Simply purchase the equipment for €325 or £315 and pay a one-off connection fee of €50.49.  Then purchase data allowance in blocks of 1 gigabyte as needed. Each 1 gigabyte top-up costs £7.00 or €7.75 and can be purchased through your client portal.

The Pay-As-You-Go service provides download speeds of up to 10 Mbp/s and upload speeds of up to 1 Mbp/s. Each top up is valid for 28 days from the date of purchase.

What happens if I exceed the allowance of my monthly package?

If you hit your monthly data allowance then your download speed will be slowed right down to 64 kb/s. It is possible to purchase a 1GB top-up (volume booster) for €12.95 or £12.99 (limited to one per month). If you find that you are frequently running out of allowance & need to move up a package that’s no problem – just let us know.

Can I get unlimited night time use?

Yes. The Freezone bolt-on is available for all SES packages except Pay-As-You-Go. Any data consumed between 11.00pm and 7.00am French time is not included as part of your monthly allowance. Freezone costs €7.75 per month for the S,M,L & XL packages and  €19.43 per month for the Pro packages.

What extras might I need?

You might want to consider ordering a wireless router along with your satellite kit. This will allow you to connect your laptop, iPad, tablet, phone or other devices wirelessly. This can be supplied for €59.95.

It is also possible to order a wall mounting bracket along with your kit at a cost of  €39.95.

What about delivery costs?

We will deliver you equipment free of charge to a UK address – normally on the next working day. Shipping to France costs €37 and delivery normally takes 4 to 5 working days.

Installation

The system is designed for self-installation if you have reasonable DIY skills. If you want the equipment professionally installed this typically costs in the region of €200.00 to €250.00. We will be happy to provide the installation guide in advance to help you decide if DIY installation is possible.

Through our experience across France over the past 14 years we have built up a network of experienced installers covering most areas of the country. If you would prefer to have your system professionally installed we will be pleased to put you in contact with somebody who can help.
